Activity Description
In this final step of the resource, students will be given the opportunity to reflect on their learning experience; including how they conducted their research, the creation of their final product, their demonstration of their learning, their strengths and their challenges.
Students will be asked to complete a self-reflection of their learning process and final product while considering the intermittent formative feedback they have received from their teacher throughout their inquiry process. Teachers will then provide their summative assessment after the student has handed-in their self-reflection as the student’s perspective will be taken into consideration.
A more specific description of the expectations for students can be found under the assessment plan.
Modifications for Diverse Learners
Following guidelines put forth by the Universal Design for Learning, our Interactive learning resources aims to include for various ways to incorporate (1) multiple means of representation, (2) multiple means of engagement, and (3) multiple means of expression.
Ways in which we may include UDL’s within this step might include:
- Provide students with a variety of choices in how they wish to communicate their reflection. (ex. interview, written reflection, etc.)
- providing students with written and verbal prompts to reflect upon.
Learning Outcomes
Throughout and at the conclusion of this step of the resource, students will demonstrate that they are learning to and are able to:
- Reflect on their processes, and their ability to work effectively both as individuals and/or collaboratively as a group (ADST 3/4).
- They reflect on and assess their experiences, thinking, learning processes, work, and progress in relation to their purposes. Students give, receive, and act on feedback and set goals individually and collaboratively. They determine the extent to which they have met their goals and can set new ones (Critical Thinking and Reflective Thinking, Core Competencies).
These Learning Outcomes and Competencies were taken directly from the BC Grades 3 and 4 Applied Design, Skills, and Technology curriculum and the Critical Thinking and Reflective Thinking portion of BC's set Core Competencies). References to grades and subjects of each outcome can be found italicized in brackets following the given competency.
Assessment Plan
In order to assess students’ achievement of the previous learning outcomes, student must demonstrate that they have and can:
- Reflect on their workload by describing what they did to achieve their final goal
- Reflect on the extent to which they completed each task within each step of the research project
- Identify strengths and weaknesses of their work
- Reflect on what they might change about their project for the future? (Teacher may provide extra prompting if they wish)
- Reflect on how they responded to the formative feedback that they have received from their teacher throughout the project process.
Resources for Educators and Students
